John Stoyte, Dublin, c1788

Of elongated rectangular form with canted corners,
engraved for PORT and SHERRY,
within borders of wrigglework and dot-pricked lines,
belcher suspension chains;
crisply marked verso I.S thrice
John Stoyte is a known Dublin maker of wine labels.
He is recorded in Jackson's Revised, p. 641, c1788, "wine labels".
A pair of crescent labels sold Bonhams, also marked I.S thrice,
8 Nov. 2005, lot 101 (751.00 USD)

Of elongated rectangular form with canted corners,
the plain surfaces engraved for GIN and CLARET,
the upper edge with an arched surmount sided by two circular chain receptacles,
belcher suspensory chain;
each crisply marked, one only with date mark,
each also with an additional mark the retailer LAW
Condition : Associated (very slight variances in form);
GIN prevoiusly marked for BRANDY (faintly perceptible beneath magnification and very bright light);
otherwise excellent conditon

c1780 and Probably Provincial

Of plain crescent form, engraved IRISH WHISKY, with suspensory chain
(Most crescent shapes date to the 18th century.
Prior to 1790, it is not unusual to find unmarked silver bottle tickets,
particularly of provincial, Scottish or Irish origin.)
