17TH CENTURY COPPER ALLOY CAPSTAN CANDLESTICK

Spain or Portugal

 

 

The long spool nozzle with a round extracting hole to either side,
over a waisted short stem and drip pan with upturned rim,

 

Condition : Excellent with some patination.

 
This form has been in use since the mid-1500s, the 16th century nozzles, however, with rectangular extracting holes.

Both 16th and 17th bases of the capstan form were core cast separately,
then "cleaned up" and polished on a lathe.
