RARE ANTIQUE BIJAR SUMAK with LONG KELIM ENDINGS

Persia c 1900

A rare and fine rug, and of excellent quality and fine weave (flatweave),
original long kelim endings; wool warp and weft,
woven with horizontal alternating wide bands of crudiform calyx medallions,
and narrow bands of flower calyxes (of 'crab form'),
divided by smaller border bands

 

(The cruciform motif is often used on Shashavan soumak flatweaves).

 
Condition: Excellent with a few minor repairs; very little sign of wear
