WORCESTER BLUE AND WHITE LEAF-SHAPED BUTTER BOAT

England c1760, x Painter’s Mark

 

 

 

 


The exterior crisply moulded with overlapping geranium leaves, the slender twig handle continuing to

 the verso of a flowerhead beneath, the interior painted “Butter Boat Mansfield” pattern, having a central

peony spray and an insect beneath floral and foliate rim sprays;

the handle with an x painter’s mark
 

Condition: Good to excellent; usual small kiln spit; a firing flaw to the handle;

a tight 1/2” hairline to rim, visible in the first and third images

 

1.2” High x 3.5” wide
