TWO CAUGHLEY PORCELAIN EGG DRAINERS

Each drainer (strainer) of saucer shaped pierced bowl, printed in underglaze blue with the Pleasure Boat (Fisherman) pattern,
depicting a Chinese man on a sampan, holding a fish, across from a further man with straight fishing line,
all within a diapered border; applied a twig handles; unmarked
Contemporary factory documents speak of these objects as "egg drainers".
They were often included in breakfast sets and were probably used to serve poached eggs.
Admiral Nelson's breakfast service, supplied by Chamberlain's Worcester
porcelain factory in 1802, included '6 Egg cups and drainers.'
Condition : Excellent; refined quality to printing; one with a glaze skip on the handle center top
