PAIR OF GEORGE III SATINWOOD BOW-FRONTED COLLECTORS CABINETS

 with Old Sheffield Plate Mounts

England, c1790-1800

 

 

 

 

 

Each 2-part cabinet with a raised brass gallery above cupboard doors enclosing an arrangement of drawers and pigeon-holes,

the lower section with a baize-lined brushing slide above conforming doors, one enclosing adjustable shelves, the other interior

fitted with five drawers, raised on plinth bases and concealed casters; engraved Old Sheffield Plate mounts;

string inlay to the sides; raised on recessed casters

 

Ref : These unusual cabinets recall a dressing commode illustrated in Catalogue of Commodes, Lucy Wood,

London 1994, no. 36, pp. 26-282.  The bow-fronted form, neat construction and use of dark and light woods,

as well as Old Sheffield Plate handles, are features shared by each.

Condition : Excellent; with several minor replacements to the veneer on the plinth bases; one loss to lower corner molding

on the base of upper section to the right example

 

Each Cabinet 56” High x 30” Wide x 20” Deep (lower section), Upper Cabinet 11" at the curve apex
