Painted in the Ming manner, the motifs standing out on a densely patterned ground,
the central medallion featuring a peony on a stippled ground,
surrounded by 8 petal-shaped cartouches enclosing
peony, lotus, and chrysanthemum motifs symmetrically opposed,
all on a trellis diapered ground;
the rim with four cartouches enclosing peach baskets separated by
richly decorated panels of peacocks, chrysanthemum heads and scrolls;
the verso rim with 4 auspicious symbols (jewel, and open lozenge)
Ref : A similarly painted large dish is illustrated in Chinese Ceramics, He Li,
Plate 583, p. 288, with discussion on p. 320, where it states :
"This grouping of decorative elements conveys wishes for wealth, nobility and longevity".
