GEORGE I WELL FIGURED WALNUT CHEST OF DRAWERS England, c1720

|
The two-piece walnut chest of drawers
retaining original beautifully patinated surfaces,
the quarter-veneered and crossbanded top with rounded corners,
over two short and three long graduated drawers
with original closed batwing brasses,
raised on shaped bracket feet; pine and oak secondary woods
(Walnut adheres well to pine, thus it frequent use in walnut chests.
The shrinkage in pine also provides a wonderful soft roll to the drawers fronts
not present on oak substrates).
Condition: Excellent with rare exquisite surfaces and patination;
wear and minute burr losses appropriate for age;
the brasses apparently original, as no other shadowing or holes are present; lacking
two locking mechanisms (right fitted drawer and middle full length drawer);
some interior brasses nuts replaced and some original
Note : The color and surface of this chest are magnificent.
The surface is like fine silk to the touch.
As one of the brasses had lost a pin,
we were able to inspect the surfaces underneath, confirming their originality (shown below).
All are in excellent condition.
41" High x 41" Wide x 21.5" Deep
