GEORGE II PROVINCIAL SILVER QUART TANKARD

John Langlands I, Newcastle 1752

 

 

Of heavy gauge silver,

in the earlier George I broader form with an applied reeded girdle and raised on a flared threaded base,
the scroll handle with typical Newcastle "tongue" and terminating in a large heart;
the front engraved with conjoined script initials 'H M B' below a crest:
a fleur-de-lis with serpent entwined, Fairbairn's 148.8;
very good marks verso and on handle

Condition : Excellent overall; handle top slightly pushed into body, several small dents;

no sign of repair or alteration; crest and initial engraving later, however with no erasure or thinning beneath

 

6.5" High, 7.5" Over Handle / 18.9 oz.
