JACOBITE INTEREST : GEORGE II ENGRAVED AIRTWIST WINE GLASS

England, c1750

 

     

 

The drawn trumpet form wine engraved with

a five-petaled Stuart rose accompanied by two rose buds

 (symbolizing James II, and his heirs Henry and Charles, later known as Bonnie Prince Charlie),

and a moth (return of the soul),

raised on an airtwist double-knopped stem and a plain conical foot with snapped pontil

 

Provenance : Christie's, London May 26, 1982

 

Condition : Excellent, with usual very minor scratches

 

6.5” High / Bowl Width 2.75” / Foot Width 3”
