Ireland, c1745-55, Marks Rubbed (Handle Underside)

Of heavy gauge silver in typical Irish helmet form,
having a shaped rim over a body with an applied central girdle
and chased in the Rococo taste :
the upper section with long-necked birds among scrolls and flowers,
and lower section with scrolling leaves, flora and shells,
the legs headed by lion masks and ending in paw feet
and sided by an acanthus-capped double-scroll handle,
remnants of marks on the handle underside (very rubbed Hibernia visible)
Condition : Excellent; good crispness and depth to embossing
4.5" High / 5 oz.
