GEORGE II FOLDED FOOT AIRTWIST STEM WINE
England, c1745-50

A somewhat scarce combination, having wonderful grey tone and horizontal striation,
the bell bowl with multiple airtwists descending from the base to the thick stem,
and raised above an applied folded foot;
the foot verso with collector's inventory numbers

In 1746, England introduced a tax on glass by weight.
Thus the folded foot was eliminated and stems were pierced to make glassware lighter.
The folded foot becomes quite rare after that date, and little exists beyond c1750.

Condition : Excellent; good heavy weight; the bowl with a few small bubbles;
the stem with a few minor surfacs scratches, visible under magnification

6-1/8" High / The Rim, 2-5/8" Wide / The Foot, 3" Wide
