FINE GEORGE III SILVER TEA TRAY

Timothy Renou,* London, 1787





Of oval 2-handled form with reeded borders and applied reeded and acanthus leaf handles,

the plain field centering the head of a lion with ducal coronet

  

Condition: Excellent; crisp marks; patination of expected light scratching; no repairs; crest slightly rubbed on one side

 

*Timothy Renou was considered one of the finest tray and salver makers of the late 18th century:

 “…of good quality and refinement of design”. (Grimwade, p. 640)

 

Note: Trays did not appear until the late 18th century.  They differ from salvers in having 2 handles
