FINE MAHOGANY SERPENTINE CHEST OF DRAWERS
Late 18th Century, Probably New England
The one board serpentine top over a conforming case with four conforming full length cockbeaded and graduated drawers, raised splay legs with shaped returns to the front and sides, early Neoclassical brasses; chestnut (drawer sides and bottoms) & pine (case) secondary woods
Note : There are many serpentine chests of this form in the Americas. The use of chestnut could place its origin from New England down through the mountainous regions of the Southeast.
Condition : Excellent; beautiful form and color; particularly nice feet and returns; old refinish; small shrinkage crack to lower right side; each foot with a horizontal repair
