FINE GEORGE III MAHOGANY DOUBLE PEDESTAL WRITING TABLE
England, 1790-95

The one piece partner's desk having a reeded edge to the overhanging rectangular top,
the writing surface being lined with bind and gilt tooled greenish brown leather,
containing two drawers in the frieze with three graduated drawers in each pedestal,
the drawers being cock-beaded and retaining the original square molded brass bail handles and octagonal rings,
the reverse side being panelled, supported upon moulded plinths with casters; with key;
with rich deep color and dense timbers;
the upper right drawer with hidden compartment to the rear
Provenance :
Alfred Bullard, Philadelphia, with interior label and accompanying descriptive information
Condition : Excellent; original brasses and surface;
several minor ripples to the mahogany veneers on the backside,
with two very minor resultant shrinkage cracks in the panels (visoble in the images below);
the leather and antique replacement, with minor abrasions appropriate to age and usage
