FINE GEORGE III MAHOGANY BOOK CADDY

England, c1790

 

 

Of delicate and exceptional form with a fine and mellow faded color, the rectangular case having a raised gallery with shaped ends to the top and with inlaid satinwood stringing to the edges, surmounted by a square carrying handle with arched corner brackets, all above a straight frieze with two short drawers over one long drawer, all with satinwood inlaid stringing to the borders, and with small brass knobs; retaining key

 

Provenance : Alfred Bullard, Philadelphia

 

Condition : Excellent, a stable veneer shrinkage crack to one end

 

9.5” High, to the gallery / 14” High, to the carrying handle

18.5” Long / 9” Deep
