in Flight (Displayed)

The gilt figure of St.
Paul with a solid nimbus holding a sword and Bible, on a tapering
hexagonal stem with rudimentary v-rattail, the fig-shaped bowl
marked on the interior with a bird in flight (or displayed) in
conforming punch, script engraved to the back 'ME'; the shaft
marked twice with a corresponding bird in
flight, the nimbus pricked 'SR' over 'CR'; possibly an additional
mark on the v-rattail; remains of gilt to shaft and bowl; wear to
gilt on the figure and nimbus
Provenance
: Sotheby’s London, June, 1986
Condition : Excellent; normal scratches and small
dings; only patchy remains of gilt on the bowl and shaft, with wear
to the gilt on the figure; no breaks or repairs observed under high
magnification
Length: 7-1/4 in (18.4 cm) / Weight: 2.1 oz
