EARLY VICTORIAN SILVER MELON FORM NUTMEG GRATER
John Taylor & John Perry, Birmingham, 1844

 


 

The case of melon form with alternating bands of plain and deeply chased scrolling floral and floral decoration,
the three plain bands below the hinge script-engraved :

E.L. Porter, From G.W.H., and Aug't 27 1845;
the hinged cover opening to reveal a further hinged blue steel grater and a void compartment;
the marks on the interior lip and very well preserved

 

Condition : Excellent, with normal patination for age and usage
(normal scuffing about the thumb lift);
good closure without rubbing; hinges in excellent condition; crisp marks
