17TH CENTURY COPPER ALLOY SPIRAL TWIST STEM CANDLESTICK

The small candlestick with spiral twist to the stem below a pierced spool shaped socket
and raised on a dished octagonal base

 

Ref : 'The Brass Book', Schiffer, p. 189, Pl. A, for a similar example :
Regarding spiral twists, Schiffer notes :

"They are all rare and very desirable.

The Winterthur Museum has spial andirons in the same room as the spiral legged furniture,

and of course, spiral candlesticks."

This form is seen from about 1650 forward.

 

Condition : Excellent, with nicks and small scratches appropropriate to age and usage.
