FIRST PERIOD WORCESTER SPARROW BEAK CREAM JUG

c1770 -75

 

The baluster-form body painted with Chinese figures with flutes and wands and two black painted

 rocks, the interior with an iron red scallop-and-dot border, ribbed loop handle;

verso bearing old  label from Jas. A Lewis, New York

 

Note:  This jug carries an interior collector's tag attributing the jug to Richard Chaffers, c1760. 

The translucence is green.  The footrim is low and not pegged.  If a Chaffers attribution can be confirmed,

I would appreciate your notification.

 

     

Condition: Excellent; no flaws observed

Painted in overglaze enamels in the colorful 'Conjurer' pattern, depicting a conjurer in a turquoise robe standing

by a vase on a tall stand greeting a distinguished gentleman seated at a table with a Chinese junk, a lady standing 

by his side, a formal border of leaves and flowers in underglaze blue inside the rims; grooved loop handle;

verso with paper label “Collection of J.D. and Louise Trabue E-35”

        

Condition: Excellent; no flaws observed
