In the European shape of silver candlesticks (George I, c1715-20), the octagonal baluster shaft over a corresponding octagonal base and nozzle, painted with famille rose and iron red enamels heightened with gilt, the nozzles headed by lappets over lotus scrolls with gilt butterflies, over a shaped knop with gilt spotting, upright iron red lotus petals and a blue band; the plain shaft descending to upright iron red plantain leaves with gilt details, a band of Wan Li diapering and further gilt scrolls to each flute above a horizontal turquoise band and iron red lines; the foot with scattered gilt, famille rose and turquoise floral scrolls banded by chrysanthemum scrolls in famille rose and turquoise; iron red line decoration to the footrim
An identical pair was sold Sotheby's, NY, October 19, 2002, lot 90, Collection of Ogden Phipps.
It is likely that this pair was from
the same original set.

Condition : Excellent, with expected wear to gilding, most gilt embellishment on the foot having worn away;
no repairs noted by blacklight; pin pricks at the neck of one might indicate kiln dust or an old repair
