GEORGIAN PERIOD SILVER PUNCH LADLES

Punch ladles were used used for serving punch, a very popular drink in early 18th century Great Britain, prior to the popularity of wine.

Punch was introduced in the mid 17th century,  and consisted of five ingredients : water, sugar, limes, lemons or oranges, spices and spirits.

The scarcity of silver at the beginning of the 18th century resulted in the lovely baleen (whale bone), ivory and wooden handles.
