GEORGE II / III INCISED TWIST STEM WINE
Moulded Bowl, England, c1755-65

 

 

 

The lead glass round funnel bowl vertically moulded flutes ending in small knops,
over a finely incised stem headed by a flattened knop,
the conical foot with snapped pontil

 

Incised stem glasses are a small class created by making incisions in the stem,
and twisting it as it is drawn out, in the same manner as an airtwist.
There are a number of badly made examples,
in both soda metal and lead glass, coarsely engraved and with clumsy stems.
This is a particularly delicately engraved example.
