GEORGE III MAHOGANY & BRASS BOTTLE CARRIER
English or Possibly Irish, c1780

 

 

 

 

 Of heavy fine-grained mahogany, the open rectangular brass-mounted stand with arched brass-mounted handle above six mahogany-sided square compartments, each with a removable brass square fitment, the case sides with two wide horizontal brass bands; the handle with a brass edge and full brass mounts to either side of the hand hold;

a somewhat rare piece of small furniture

 

Condition : Excellent with rich old patination; the brass with minor expected bends and stains;

each brass liner custom fit to its own receptacle, and probably replacements, as compartment bottoms are numbered;

one band with an apparent silver solder repair or fill to one side (pictured below)
