FINE CARVED & SILVER-MOUNTED MAHOGANY HORSE-HEAD SNUFF BOX
England, mid-19th Century

 

 

 

The elegant snuff box carved as a horse's head with upright ears and strong jaws,
above a well arched neck with mane combed to one side;
the neck base mounted with a silver hinged oval cover which is engine turned to the interior as well as exterior,
the base centering an unengraved round reserve

 

Provenance : Rogers De Rin, London, with accompanying priced label

 

Condition: Good to excellent with marks and abrasions consistent with age and usage;
the verso lid not closing tightly; one ear with a very minor interior nick
