ANTIQUE KONYA-KARAPINAR RUG

Anatolia, Late 19th Century, c.1890 

 

Wool on wood foundation with all vegetal dyes,
a beautiful example of a geometrical bold Konya-Karapinar with unusual colors,
the camel
color ground with a Karapinar medallion with a tulip-studded cruciform center
within a hexagon hooked border with polygons above and below,

bold geometric spandels with flower head motifs, within an usual comb-type geometric border,
the top and bottom with rows of lappets

 

Note: Konya rugs are among the most collectible of the Anatolian rugs.

 

Condition: Very good with minor areas of restoration
